An exciting new venture!

Remember this shirt?

I wanted Austin to have a fun shirt for St. Patrick's Day that wasn't the same old shirt that was produced on mass, so I created this funky tie shirt to coordinate with the top that I had made for Amelia.

I decided to make him a shirt for Easter and the next thing I knew people were asking me to make them one too! And then I made Amelia a top to match. Up until now, my sewing machine has largely gathered dust, save for my one failed attempt at sock puppies as Christmas gifts back in 2010. It surprised me how much I love to make clothes for my kids and I've decided to share it with people.

I'm starting things off with The Carrot Collection.

$12 for Onesies and boy's shirts up to size 6
$15 for boy's shirts sizes 7-14

Right now I'm only taking local orders until Monday, April 2, 2012. Comment with your email addy if you would like one. I approve all comments before they are published so your email addresses will not be published to the public.

More pictures of the boy's shirt and the cute dresses in this collection to come! My models are sleeping lol!

St. Patrick's Day

May green be the grass you walk on,

May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

~Irish Blessing

And may these little irish cuties of the O'Boutilier Clan bring you smiles!

Move over Elton!

Look it's O'Poppy!

I made Amelia's shirt and then made a tie for Austin's shirt with left over fabric. I also made a few St. Patty's treats for Mommy and Daddy...stay tuned!

Happy O' Birthday Janice!

Happy 21st Janice! Wish we were celebrating with you!

Can't wait to see you!

A visit from home

Thursday, March 15, 2012

This has been a very bittersweet week. A very special lady lost her hard fought battle with cancer. Family came from Newfoundland to be here to honour her and support my Aunt and Uncle and our cousins. Austin has a new friend in my cousin's fiancee Charity and Amelia loves Maddie and Griffin.

Austin and Amelia provided some much needed smiles and comic relief. Dad is here until Saturday and we're going to soak in every moment.

A room fit for sweet dreams and peaceful play

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Let's face it, it is beyond easy to get carried away decorating a little girl's room. I had to reel myself in a few times before I finally settled on something that I think she'll be able to live with for a few years to come. I have no interest in redecorating the kids' rooms every time they get a year older.

I really tried to create a space where Amelia can rest and be soothed in now and will be able to play and relax in in the next few years. In fact, I'm going to be making her a quilt with some really crazy cute fabric that will extend the life of her room when she moves from her crib to a big girl bed (more on that down the road).

Remember how I said these renovations would be done by Thanksgiving? I'm still waiting. Since all that is left in Amelia's room is to paint a few doors and add a door knob for the closet, I decided to share. Oh, I'm on the hunt for a great jewel type drawer pull to use as a closet door pull. If you know where I can get one, please let me know!
At last, I present Amelia's room!

The Owl art above the crib is actually something that Austin made at preschool. At first he wasn't thrilled to see it on Amelia's wall but now he likes that his owl watches over Amelia as she sleeps. The other wall decoration is a hand and foot print set from Carter's. I got her prints at 5 months so they are still pretty small.

We took down the wall between the two bedrooms and rebuilt it, changing the closet size and location. I am thrilled with how much more space there is in this room. It doesn't feel nearly as small is it did before we made that change. The extra 6 inches of floor space make all the difference in the world. We've recycled a dresser/change table from friends. I was thrilled that the drawer fronts were already purple and no painting was required. Down the road we'll remove the change table top and put the top drawer back in for non diaper storage. For now I love seeing the cloth diapers all folded neatly and hiding all the mess in the drawers.

I had the wall decal and the clip holder custom made. We've actually got another clip holder that I haven't hung up yet. Yes I have a problem with hair accessories. They are just so darn cute (and keep her Mohawk under control).

I had wanted to reupholster the glider and ottoman but decided that the neutral added a calming element to the space (that and I couldn't stand the thought of starting another project that would delay the completion of this room).

In the end, we're thrilled with how it turned out. It makes the time I spent searching the Internet for wall decals, fabrics and bedding and figuring out how to get them to us worth it. Here's a run down of the materials used:

I purchased the crib sheet, crib skirt, valance and fleece blanket from Baby Super Mall
Superstore (white black out curtains)
Jysk (Butterfly curtain clips, butterfly decor clips)

Decor:
Carter's (print frames)
Rooms Come True (flower wall hooks)
Happi Tree Wall decal (I ordered it online but you can now get it at Weaton's)
Kudos Signs and Gifts (Girl wall decal)
Grasshopper Kids Creations (custom clip holders)
Bouclair Home (lamp)
Tag (rug)

Paint:
Chateau Rose by Behr (I love that it is a purple/pink so neither colour overwhelms and the sunlight makes a big difference in what colour you see on the wall)

I am still very impressed that I managed to pull this room together on a $300 decor budget. The bedding ate and Happi Tree wall decal ate up the majority of that. I decided to make them the major elements in the room and thought it was worth the money. I tried to buy local and support WAHMs whenever I could. I love that the room isn't over done and that there is space to grow and breath in there.

The most important thing of all is that the little lady loves it. She's pushing herself around on the floor and dreaming sweet dreams in her bed at night.

9 Months

Saturday, March 3, 2012

Amelia is 9 months old. How is time passing so quickly?! She can wave, say "Bye, bye", "Mama", "daddy" and jumbles sounds together that make it seem like she is saying something so important that if we could only speak baby all the world's problems would be solved. Her favorite food is still blueberries, but she now eats everything we eat with a few exceptions.  As you can tell from the picture, our little lady isn't feeling too hot today. She's been under the weather for the weather for the past few days and it is breaking my heart. She is up well past her bedtime but is so miserable that I don't mind the extra cuddles.

Amelia does the same  sucking ion of her bottom lip that her brother did. She's really filled out the last few weeks and it makes her little cheeks so squeezable!

See that hair? That hair is the reason we might as well have stock in Grasshopper Kids Creations. Her hair stands straight on end after its washed and only flattens down with a clip or after she wears a hat. Its getting longer and the colour is changing a bit, it's more of an ashy blond now.

She practices her defensive moves on her teddy bear. Girl has got to be tough! Big brother Austin is going to make sure she is no shrinking violet!

Amelia loves books! Right now Austin's favorite is Green Eggs and Ham. Amelia loves reading it with him.  In honour of Dr. Seuss' birthday yesterday we read ever Dr. Seuss book that we had. Ten Apples Up on Top made our girl giggle the most!
